What to do with a Grumpy baby?

This week my easy, happy baby has been replaced with The Grumpy Demon. It's not downright screaming but more of a constant whinge all day & it's bugging me as I don't know why she's doing it. I've narrowed it down to a few things:

1: Boredom? Mum reckons that babies tend to get a bit bored at this point as they can't move around yet but they're a little beyond lying happily on the floor all day

2: Teething? Still not sure on this one, she's chewing things & dribbling, the whingeing could be annoyance at the little niggles she may be feeling

3: Hunger? Does she need to go onto solids maybe? She has started waking an hour earlier in the morning & she's constantly chewing her hand off. I increased her milk feedings yesterday as she was genuinely hungry, do I need to consider some solids? I'm still on the fence about this as I did want to leave her as long as possible before going on solids but if she needs them, then well, she needs them right?

She seems to be happier when we're out & about, yesterday I chucked her in the front pack & wandered down to the beach which she seemed to love. She was intrigued by the water splashing about my feet. Is she just one of those children that I'm constantly going to have to keep entertained?

Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm not having a whingy baby!

  1. I love the way you write, makes it so easy to imagine being said "I chucked her in the front pack" fantastic! Love the blog - makes me want a Isobel of my very own!

  2. My daughter was acting the same way a few months back, so we started giving her solids, and it made a big difference. She just wasn't satisfied with just milk any longer. We started with tiny bits of rice cereal when she was just about five months. She's now 26 weeks and eats a few different things.
